Outstanding Youth Volunteer of the Year

Jayson Wanner, a junior at Great Falls High School, has been named the Special Olympics Montana Outstanding Youth Volunteer of the Year. This award one of the Distinguished Service Awards given annually by SOMT. Nominations for these prestigious awards are received by athletes, families, coaches, and volunteers from across the state. Jayson was selected for his support of SOMT both in and out of school. Since he began volunteering in the 4th grade, he has taken on many roles and responsibilities. Jayson is a dedicated unified partner, coach, volunteer, and State Youth Activation Committee member.

On February 6 during the Great Falls High School’s Winter Pep Assembly, Nick Robert, 2017 Athlete of the Year, Bob Norbie, SOMT CEO/President, surprised Jayson with his well-deserved award. “Jayson is important to me because he treats me with respect. He sees me as a person, not as a disability. He is a friend who supports me, helps me learn and grow both in sports and as a youth advocate. He is a kind, caring individual working to provide true inclusion for people with disabilities. I am proud to call him my friend.” ~ an excerpt from Nick’s speech.
