Special Olympics Montana Branding Guidelines
At Special Olympics Montana, we love seeing Areas, Teams, and Clubs express their unique identity through team logos, spirit wear, social media graphics, flyers, and more. Creativity and team spirit are at the heart of what we do!
However, because Special Olympics is an international brand, it’s essential to follow specific branding guidelines to maintain a consistent and recognizable image worldwide. In order to do that, Special Olympics International has provided us with the following rules:
Below are the key rules to keep in mind when creating team gear or promotional materials:
Logo Usage
The Special Olympics logo must not be modified in any way.
The logo can only appear in Black, White or Red. No other colors are permissible.
The mixed color (red and black) logo can only be used on a PURE WHITE background.
Do not intertwine the logo with team names, graphics, or other design elements.
The globe symbol must always be accompanied by identifying words such as “Special Olympics Montana” or the designated Area name.
The GLOBE can never be used ALONE.
There are specific logos for game promotions and uniforms. Please contact SOMT Communications to obtain these logos.
When the logo is used on printed materials, the logo may not be intertwined with other graphics. It must be set separately from the rest of the design elements.
The logo may NOT be used on any collateral (print or digital) that features alcohol/controlled substances in name or logo of a sponsor or event. Any collateral that also features another business or organization logo MUST be approved by SOMT Communications.
There are strict guidelines on adding the Special Olympics logo to uniforms. Spirit wear has less restrictive guidelines, as long as the SOMT or Area logo rules are followed. It will be helpful to understand these rules when creating team graphics. Please take time to watch the video below for a deeper understanding. You can also reach out to SOMT for questions, explanations, or help with design. Contact Holly Netz at hnetz@somt.org
2. Branding Approval
Before printing or releasing any design, it’s essential to have the design reviewed for compliance with branding standards. This includes uniforms, spirit wear, logos, promotional graphics, and printed materials. We know you put a lot of effort into these designs, so
you may find it helpful to reach out BEFORE spending a lot of time creating if you have any questions about branding.
