21 May Special Olympics Montana 2025 Youth Volunteer of the Year – Jai Baumann
Some people are born to lead, some to inspire—and then there’s Jai Baumann, who does both with a whole lot of heart, hustle, and high-fives. Special Olympics Montana is thrilled to recognize Jai as our 2025 Youth Volunteer of the Year, a title she’s absolutely earned!
Each year, we honor exceptional volunteers with our Distinguished Service Awards. These folks are true MVPs who go above and beyond to bring our mission of inclusion, respect, and joy to life. The Youth Volunteer of the Year award celebrates someone 18 or under who’s doing just that…and then some.
Let’s rewind the tape to when it all began: One athlete. No Local Program Coordinator. No coach. But then—enter Jai, just 10 years old at the time, already brimming with purpose and passion. Despite attending a different school, she jumped in without hesitation. When told that the only athlete might not want to participate, Jai responded with wisdom beyond her years: “Let’s let her decide.” And just like that, a movement was born.
Jai worked side-by-side with that first athlete, who was mostly non-verbal, building trust, connection, and a whole lot of joy. Soon, giggles turned into words, and practices turned into milestones.
Fast-forward to today, and Jai is still at the heart of it all. From running practices and coaching to cheering loud at competitions, Jai does it with energy, empathy, and a can-do spirit that lifts everyone around her. She’s a Unified Partner, a swim buddy, a mentor, a coach, and, most importantly, a friend to the athletes on the team.
As the Box Elder Bears team grew, so did Jai’s impact. Whether she was juggling her own track meets to show up for another athlete’s event or lending a hand wherever needed, Jai showed that leadership isn’t about the spotlight. It’s about showing up, stepping in, and spreading joy.
She’s now a senior in high school, and has never missed a big event or team trip. Whether it’s practices, school assemblies, or inclusive activities, Jai is there. Her kindness, commitment, and contagious enthusiasm make her a role model for students, athletes, parents, and coaches alike. The Box Elder Bears—and all of us—are better because of her.
So today, we celebrate not just what Jai does, but who she is: A true game-changer with a heart of gold and a spirit that screams “inclusion for all!”
Congratulations to Jai Bauman, Special Olympics Montana’s 2025 Youth Volunteer of the Year!
Keep changing the world, one smile at a time.
