Special Olympics North America Move Challenge
Special Olympics North America (SONA) recently wrapped up its SONA Move Challenge, an inspiring 8-week movement challenge designed to motivate participants to stay active and prioritize their health. Athletes from across the country logged their weekly minutes of movement—proving that when it comes to inclusion and determination, there are no limits.
The challenge wasn’t about competition alone; it was about consistency, wellness, and community. Participants were encouraged to move in ways that worked best for them—whether that meant walking, dancing, training, stretching, or engaging in organized sports—while building healthy habits that last far beyond the eight weeks.
Montana Makes the Leaderboard
Among thousands of participants across North America, three Special Olympics Montana athletes finished in the Top 10 overall, an incredible achievement that highlights both their dedication and Montana’s strong culture of inclusion and fitness.
Top 10 Finishers from Montana:
- 🥇 Sandy Williams* – 1st Place
- 🥈 Cassandra Weidenaar – 2nd Place
- 🏅 Nikadoums Heinzman – 7th Place
These athletes consistently showed up week after week, logging impressive movement minutes and setting an example for others across the Special Olympics community.
More Than Minutes—A Movement
The SONA Move Challenge represents more than just numbers on a leaderboard. It’s a reminder that movement is for everyone, and that small, daily efforts add up to powerful results. Challenges like this help reinforce Special Olympics’ commitment to health, inclusion, and lifelong fitness for people with intellectual disabilities.
Congratulations to all who participated in the SONA Move Challenge, and especially to our Montana athletes who proudly represented their state on the national stage. Your commitment, resilience, and drive inspire us all to keep moving—together.
🎉💪💙
