22 Sep Celebrating a Lifetime of Impact: Tammy Grimm Joins the 2025 Hall of Fame
Every once in a while, an individual comes along who changes everything. For Special Olympics Montana, one of those people is Tammy Grimm, who was officially inducted into the 2025 Hall of Fame in recognition of her 33 years of extraordinary service. This is the highest honor bestowed by SOMT, reserved for those whose devotion has shaped the movement and whose legacy will stand the test of time.
Tammy’s story is not one of occasional volunteerism, she is an example of a true year-round champion for athletes. In the winter, she is at the bowling alley, coaching with competitiveness and compassion. In the spring, she can be found on the field, at the pool, or coordinating competitions. In the summer, she helps bring athletes and families together through picnics, outings, and celebrations. She even leads an all-ability dance team that inspires joy and showcases inclusion in action. Her commitment stretches across every season and every community she touches.
Tammy is also a multi-sport coach who has led 11 different sports throughout her career. In fact, she has coached every sport offered in Montana except golf and skiing. Her versatility is rare, but what truly sets her apart is the care she brings to every athlete, every family, and every moment.
Families who nominated Tammy for this award describe her as transformational. One parent shared that their son, once a shy 8-year-old, found confidence, friendship, and belonging through Tammy’s guidance. Sixteen years later, he continues to thrive in Special Olympics because she opened the door to a new world. Another parent recalled how Tammy inspired their son to run a relay race he once refused to try, proving to him that he was capable of more than he imagined. Yet another family spoke of her compassion when their child returned to competition after a long illness. Tammy stayed by their side, checking in, coordinating schedules, and making sure the family felt supported both on and off the field. These stories are only a glimpse of the countless ways Tammy has touched lives.
Her impact extends far beyond athletes. Tammy has inspired and mentored hundreds of volunteers, many of whom remain active today because of her influence. She not only recruits new faces to the movement, she also shapes them into leaders, teaching lessons of teamwork, service, and inclusion that ripple through the entire community.
To say Tammy has made a difference is an understatement. Her legacy is one of joy, belonging, and unwavering commitment to a movement that transforms lives.
She is, without question, a legend in our movement, a true G.O.A.T., and a shining example of what it means to serve with heart.
