2025 Adult Volunteer of the Year – Kim Diest

Special Olympics Montana is proud to recognize Kim Diest as the 2025 Distinguished Service Award recipient for Adult Volunteer of the Year. This award honors a currently registered adult volunteer who goes above and beyond to improve the quality and reach of Special Olympics programming at the local, area, or chapter level. With more than two decades of dedicated service, Kim embodies the heart, strength, and spirit of this mission.

For over 20 years, Kim has been a powerhouse within the Glacier Area, playing a vital role in nearly every aspect of local programming. Her unwavering commitment to athletes is evident in everything she does—from big-picture planning to behind-the-scenes coordination. She is a voice of advocacy and accountability, consistently putting athletes first in every decision and challenging others to do the same. Whether asking hard questions or stepping in to handle logistics, Kim is tireless in her efforts to create meaningful, high-quality experiences for athletes.

Kim’s presence is felt deeply in both the local community and among her fellow volunteers. She is a trusted and valued member of the Area Management team and is known for her proactive problem-solving, creative ideas, and strong local partnerships. Her involvement spans countless responsibilities: coordinating dances, dinners, summer socials, and major events like the Area Spring Games, where she single-handedly organizes Opening Ceremonies. From booking venues and DJs to coordinating food trucks and donations, Kim ensures every detail is handled with care and intention.

Her impact doesn’t stop at the community level—she is also a proud mom of an athlete, bringing a personal and passionate perspective to her work. Whether she’s driving athletes to and from practices and competitions, leading fundraising efforts, or preparing the team for parades and public events, Kim is a reliable, energetic presence. Her perspective as both a parent and a volunteer gives her unique insight into the needs of athletes and families alike.

Kim’s efforts are rooted in a deep understanding of the mission of Special Olympics Montana. She is outgoing, persistent, and resourceful, with a sharp sense of humor and an even sharper sense of purpose. She does whatever is needed—often more—and is relentless in her pursuit of excellence and inclusion for every athlete.
